Hekatron is constantly working to improve its processes and thereby reduce the impact on people and the environment. Below, you will find further information on the various topics and statements related to our smoke and CO alarms.
We use FSC-certified cardboard for the printed packaging of our Genius smoke alarms and our CO alarms. This means we use material for this packaging that meets the requirements of the FSC certification system. The percentage of material sourced from sustainably managed forests is indicated on each package.
Our alarm devices emit alarm tones at frequencies ranging from 3,230 to 3,500 Hz. The Brawa study shows that this optimized alarm frequency helps both younger and older people hear the alarm tone more clearly.
We systematically monitor and review our production processes using defined key performance indicators. In doing so, we consider factors such as material consumption, time, and energy, and continuously work to make improvements. The ergonomics of our production workstations are also an integral part of this approach.
Our smoke alarms detect a continuous increase in contamination within the sensing chamber and adjust the alarm threshold accordingly. This contamination compensation helps reduce false alarms and ensures reliable operation of the alarm.
With our RetroFit products, we omit components that aren’t needed during replacement. As a result, bases and mounting accessories are not included in the scope of delivery for these models. This means less material is used for unnecessary components.

Even during installation, a smoke alarm can sometimes fall. That’s why tests are conducted to determine whether such a fall would impair the alarm’s functionality. In a 2021 test by Stiftung Warentest, Hekatron received a grade of 1.0 for durability.
When installed, the Genius Plus X with a radio module transmits only for short periods during normal operation. Daily radio activity averages 0.48 seconds per day.
As a manufacturer of electrical and electronic equipment, Hekatron is registered with the EAR Foundation and complies with the relevant requirements of the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG). End users can return used warning devices free of charge to municipal collection points or designated retail take-back locations.
